Syllabus
This course will solve questions from Math Kangaroo Level 3-4 Competitions. The course focuses on building critical problem-solving skills and student’s persistence towards solving problems. Classes will be held in a teacher-paced interactive mode fashion. The questions are categorized as easy, medium, and hard questions and cover application of one or more topics mentioned below. Students will also learn problem solving strategies as mentioned below.
Topics:
- Visualizing problems
- Finding Patterns, solving for one and projecting for many
- Making a table
- Symmetry
- Working backwards
- Time and Clock
- Fractions
- Classifying Objects, and ordering numbers
Problem Solving Strategies:
- Narrowing down options through process of elimination
- Using hit and trial
- Overview of the exam – number of questions, mark distribution and time
- Time Strategies for the exam
Prerequisites:
Students should have basic knowledge of -
- Multiples and factors, including basic knowledge of LCM and GCF
- Fractions
- Ratio and Proportions
- Percentages
Parents :
The prerequisite knowledge for the above courses will not be covered in the class. The pace of the class will not slow down if your child can’t keep up. It is therefore important for the student to meet the prerequisites for this class. For maximum benefit, it is also expected that the students spend approximately 30 mins each day doing the assigned homework.
