Patna, the capital of Bihar is a city with a rich history. In ancient times, it was known as Patliputra and was the capital of many dynasties like Magadh, Nanda, Mourya, Sunga, and Gupta. King Ashoka the Great ruled from this city and his empire extended all over modern India and nearby countries. The Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain pilgrim centers of Vaishali, Rajgir, Nalanda, Bodhgaya, and Pawapuri are nearby.

Patna is also a sacred city for Sikhs. Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, was born here. One of oldest universities of the world, Nalanda, is also close by. During the pre-independence years, Dr. Rajendra Prasad (First President of India) and Jai Prakash Narain spearheaded their movement from this city.
