2004-2005 NSF Brain Bee Champion

Ashley Thakur : At age 7, Ashley became the youngest National Spelling Bee champion of NSF. Further she also became the youngest Brain Bee champion at the NSF Finals during 2004. She is a precocious 12 year old who recently played as Concert Mistress with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Ashley has received countless applause for her achievements in the violin study. In addition, she plays the piano and has done ballet for the past 9 years. She also teaches martial arts to younger students. In concern to sports, she is a competitive athlete in swimming and lacrosse. She hopes to attend Julliard in the fall and eventually attend Harvard University. Ashley's dream is to become an obstetrician or a gynecologist. When asked why she wants to become an obstetrician, she innocently replies "My mother gets gifts everyday". Even though she's applying to Julliard at age 12, she's quite the child at heart.

2003-2004 NSF Brain Bee Champion

Bhakti Nagall, a 10th grade student at the Math and Science Academy of Hartford, Connecticut won this year's North South Foundation Brain Bee Championship. Bhakti is a straight ?A' student and had the honor of being one of the two children selected into the magnet school from Farmington Township. She is also the Editor of her school year book. As a freshman she made it to her school tennis team. She enjoys playing piano and working as a volunteer at the local Red Cross and at the University of Connecticut Medical Center.
