Visakhapatnam (known locally as “Vizag”) is the second largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh and the third largest city on the east cost of India after Kolkata and Chennai. It is primarily an industrial city and is known for its cool sandy beaches, beautiful hill ranges, caves and valleys, and stunning landscapes. The city derived it’s name from the God of Valor “Visakha”. It was part of Kalinga Kingdom under Ashoka’s rule in 260 BC. Most of the population in Vizag speak Telugu although one can find considerable concentration of Marwaris, Oriya, Bengalis, Punjabis, Tamil and Malayalees and an large population of migrant workers drawn from different parts of India by the abundance of work at local companies. Visakhapatnam is a center for education, research and learning. There are a number of academic, engineering and research centers that specialize in Arts, Sciences, Engineering and other areas in and around Visakhapatnam.
