Dr. Ratnam Chitturi

Founder & Mentor

Dr. Ratnam Chitturi, a visionary leader in education and social entrepreneurship, is the Founder, Chief Mentor, and Director of the North South Foundation (NorthSouth), a nonprofit organization established in 1989. NorthSouth’s dual mission is transformative: to empower underprivileged students in India through scholarships and to nurture academic excellence among Indian American youth in the U.S.

To date, over 30,000 scholarships have been awarded in India, and more than 50,000 children in the U.S. have benefited from its programs, which span STEM, communication, universal values, and leadership. Through his innovative leadership, Dr. Chitturi has built platforms where young minds can excel, producing champions in prestigious competitions like the Scripps National Spelling Bee and National Geographic Bee, and paving their way to top U.S. universities.

Beyond NorthSouth, Dr. Chitturi’s initiatives include the Svayamkrishi Endowment, promoting sustainable rural development in India, and the Pearls of India Foundation, which educates the diaspora’s younger generation about India’s heritage through storytelling and videos. His research explores India’s civilizational legacy and Vedic traditions, offering critical analyses of Western Indology through an Indic lens, thus contributing to the global discourse on cultural narratives.

Dr. Arun Maheshwari

Dr. Arun Maheshwari is a seasoned senior executive with experience in insurance, banking, IT, private equity, and real estate investment. He has studied at IIT-Bombay, IIM-Calcutta, and holds an MBA from Columbia, an MS from Stanford, and a PhD from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Balu Natarajan

Vice Chairman

Balu Natarajan, M.D is the Chief Medical Officer of Seasons Hospice that serves 5,300 patients in 31 cities. He manages a huge fleet of physicians, hospice aides, social workers, nurses and other support staff across the US. Dr. Natarajan is board-certified in internal medicine, hospice care & sports medicine. He was also the first Indian American ever to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 1985.

Dr. Natarajan served as CEO of NorthSouth from 2020-2024, and was previously on the board since 2017. Under his leadership as CEO, NorthSouth underwent a significant evolution, transforming into a process-driven organization well-positioned for growth. His leadership helped NorthSouth adapt rapidly to the challenges of the pandemic, shifting our regional and national contests online, and advancing our professionalization and branding initiatives.

Mr. Srivital Choppara

CEO

Srivital Choppara has an engineering degree from India and an MBA from Fisher College of Business of Ohio State University. He has almost 35 years of experience as an engineer, IT consultant, and Tech manager with well-known companies such as IBM.

Srivital has been a part of NorthSouth for a long time. He has been a steadfast supporter of our mission, serving in numerous capacities, including as a parent, volunteer, chapter director, finals convener, and board member. As director of the Columbus chapter, Srivital was instrumental in ensuring its consistent ranking among the Top 10 most active NorthSouth chapters nationwide. He now steps into the role of NorthSouth’s first full-time CEO, and we look forward to his leadership as we embark on ambitious growth and transformation initiatives.

Dr. Praveen Goli

Director

Dr. Praveen Goli is a senior executive at Cisco Systems responsible for driving services into service providers and web scalers in the Americas. Dr. Goli, driven by a strong passion for educational excellence, played a pivotal role in launching and expanding NorthSouth’s coaching program. He led the coaching pillar of NorthSouth from 2008 to 2021. Alongside his commitment to fostering creative learning initiatives, he contributes his expertise to advancing the organization’s technology evolution.

Dr. Prasad Kaipa

Director

Prasad Kaipa is a co-founder of Institute of Indic Wisdom and focuses on consciousness studies, inner transformation and works with organizations and leaders to help them create flourishing organizations and innovative teams and leaders. He was a thought leader in innovation, leadership, and change management, and a top Management Thinker of Indian origin.

Prasad’s unique approach was in integrating business approaches with brain research with Indic spirituality / wisdom models. In addition to having advised and coached 130+ C-level executives at Fortune 500 companies, he used Bhagavad Gita framework and several interviews with CEOs to co-author a best- selling book “From Smart to Wise” in 2013. He founded the Center of Leadership, Innovation, and Change (CLIC) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) as well as co-founded TiE Silicon Valley's Entrepreneur Institute, with 13,000+ participants over 10 years.

Mr. Hiren Thakar

Director

Mr. Thakar is the Chief Strategy Officer responsible for growth at Avison Young, the world’s fastest growing commercial real estate services company. Under his leadership Avison Young has grown from a $40M regional company into a $1.0B global challenger brand in 14 years. Hiren’s experiences provide him with deep expertise in growing mid-market service firms. These skills come from opening 100+ offices across 18 countries including 55 acquisitions and recruiting of 600+ teams around the globe.

Hiren’s career is grounded by his education from top institutions including an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and engineering degrees from University of Illinois and Northwestern. Hiren applied this knowledge as a Management Consultant advising C-Suite executives and BODs at many mid-market companies. In the next phase of his career, Hiren worked on successfully executing growth strategies. In his work at Grubb & Ellis Hiren helped turn around a public company. He brought stability with discipline and accountability to finance and operations. This led to his work with the CEO and the BOD to relist Grubb & Ellis on the NYSE, restructure their capital and ultimately merge the company with Triple Net Realty Advisors.

Veena Gundavelli

Veena Gundavelli is a Silicon Valley-based tech innovator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, renowned for her contributions to AI and finance. She is the Founder and CEO of Emagia, a global leader in AI-powered digital order-to-cash management solutions. Under her leadership, Emagia has achieved significant milestones, including being named among CNBC’s World’s Top 200 Fintech Companies for 2023.

Academically, Veena holds a master’s degree in computer engineering from Santa Clara University and a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communications engineering from Osmania University. Over the years, she has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including Top 50 AI CEOs of 2021 by Technology Innovators magazine, Innovator of the Year at the 2018 Women in IT Awards USA, Top 25 AI Executives of 2024 by The Software Report.

In addition to her leadership at Emagia, Veena is the Founder of Touch-A-Life Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting donors with underserved communities. Through the foundation’s digital giving platform and youth social entrepreneurship platform, she has contributed to empowering youth, individuals and organizations to contribute to UN SDGs. Her philanthropic efforts reflect her deep commitment to leveraging technology for social impact. Veena is also a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in technology, encouraging women to take on leadership roles and supporting flexible work programs for working mothers. Her visionary approach continues to drive innovation in AI-powered solutions while making a significant impact in the nonprofit sector.

Mr. Siva Vavilala

Director

Sivakumar Vavilala (Siva) is a seasoned technology executive with a distinguished three-decade plus leadership journey at global organizations and startups as well. Working with Fortune 500 clients in Banking, Manufacturing, Insurance, Pharma, and the Public sector, Siva has successfully led complex programs worldwide, spanning the USA, India, Europe, UK and New Zealand. His versatile contributions encompass Consulting, Engagement Delivery, Practice Development, Sales, and People Management. Demonstrating expertise in Digital Transformation, Automation, SaaS, Cloud, ERP and, AI/ML, Siva showcases a comprehensive skill set. His impactful roles include managing sizable global teams, providing strategic direction, generating revenue, and nurturing competency and growth.

Siva holds an MBA from the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, and an MS in Applied Electronics from Osmania University. Outside the corporate realm, Siva actively serves the non-profit sector. As the CSR Champion at a global organization, he played a pivotal role in advancing STEM and computer science education within underserved communities. He has been involved with the NorthSouth Foundation for 20+ years, serving as the founding Indianapolis Chapter Director for 15 years spearheading regional contests, coaching, fund-raising and volunteer recruitment. In addition, Siva conceptualized and led initiatives in NorthSouth including college mentorship, academic workshops for fund-raising etc. Serving on the Board of Trustees at the India Association of Indianapolis (IAI), he showcased his commitment to elevating the visibility of the Indian community and championing community causes.
